And now for some happy news about baseball

Yesterday was a good day for as far as baseball goes. Both the Red Sox and Astros won, meaning they both made the playoffs. The Astros did it the hard way, coming from behind, but Brad Lidge performed as his usual self this time and preserved the victory. As it turns out the Astros had to win because Philly also won yesterday, as former Astros closer Billy Wagner shut down the Nationals. The Red Sox, on the other hand, pounded the damn Yankees 10-1. Cleveland lost, so Boston did not have to win, but it is still nice to end the regular season by beating the Yankees.

The Yankees also found something to whine about. See, if Texas had beaten the Angels yesterday--which they did not--the Yankees, who play the Angels next, would have had home field advantage for the series. Instead, the Angels won, and they have home field advantage. It turns out that in the Rangers-Angels game, Rangers manager Buck Showalter pulled his top three hitters (Michael Young, Mark Teixeira, and Hank Blaylock) out of the game after the 3rd inning. Their replacements did not get a hit. This upset some of the Yankees.

And to that I say "waaah" and "boo hoo." If the Yankees had won yesterday, they would have secured home field and the Angels game would not have mattered. As Yankees GM Brian Cashman said, "If we had won one more game, we wouldn't have to be worried about what anybody else did." Instead they went out and got pounded by the Red Sox.

Oh happy day!

Hey Dubya2, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. And just maybe the fat lady sings thru a nicely modified, well seasoned Bach 50B and not a shiny new tin cup Kanstul 1662.

Angels? Mere bump in the road. Yanks, being the gentleman they are, let the Sox win yesterday out of pity - they were toying with them. Kind of like when a cat plays with a mouse just before the grand finale. You know, when the fat Bach sings.

Toying with them, eh? Like being up 3-0?
